Pet import to China and Hong Kong

Pet import China

Pets are imported into China into two categories.

Category 1 countries: rabies-free countries

Such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Hawaii, Fiji, Japan, Ireland, and New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Macau. These countries only need to present a valid rabies vaccination booklet and an officially recognized health certificate.

Category 2 countries: Countries not mentioned above belong to medium to high risk countries for rabies virus

Pets imported into China need to be vaccinated against rabies, a rabies antibody report must be made after thirty days or within one year, and a local officially recognized health certificate must be applied for ten days before entry.

Pet Importation into China You can fly directly from foreign countries to the mainland and arrange the importation of your pet according to the one-person-one-dog/cat policy. However, in order to avoid the spread of the new coronavirus, mainland China has reduced the number of flights for most pets entering China. We can fly pets from foreign countries to Hong Kong by freight, re-export them from Hong Kong to Macau, and then import the pets directly into China from Macau.

According to China’s pet import regulations, each person can only bring one cat or one dog into China, but what if I have more than one pet? The extra pets can be sent to Hong Kong by freight, and then re-exported from Hong Kong to Macau, and then imported into China from Macau.

Do pets need to be quarantined after being imported into China?

In 2020, the country has canceled the quarantine and observation facilities for pets imported into China. But you must present valid entry documents and injection records.

What if I fly directly to China from abroad with my pet and I can’t clear customs with my pet during quarantine?

You must hire a local company to help clear customs and transport your pet to a quarantine hotel after it is imported into China.
